With 46% of children living in poverty and unemployment at 14.5% – the highest among UK core cities – Birmingham is a community in urgent need of support. Our 23,000 sq. ft. facility, generously funded by The Sir Peter Rigby Charitable Trust, will allow us to rescue and redistribute twice as much food. This will enable even more charities, community groups, and individuals to access the nutritious surplus food they need, with further details on the launch available online.
Beyond food redistribution, the Hub will offer valuable skills training in warehousing and catering & hospitality, giving individuals the expertise and work experience they need to secure employment in these vital sectors.
The Commercial and Training Kitchens will offer new catering and cooking skills development programmes, enhancing our existing employability initiatives and giving individuals a chance to gain a wider range of practical expertise.
Additionally, the Hub features a Conference and Training Suite to foster collaboration between businesses, charities, and community groups, creating a network of support that amplifies the impact of this initiative.
The Hub is more than just a food distribution centre - it’s a catalyst for change. At the Hub, we will rescue food, feed thousands of families, create new jobs, and strengthen the community, all while driving lasting change in food redistribution and employment.
