    Urgent Appeal

A message from Fareshare Midlands Director, Simone Connolly

We are facing great challenges in these unprecedented times. As the Coronavirus outbreak escalates, more and more people in our communities will face hunger, long periods of isolation and access to good, healthy food will be a struggle as many local charities may have to close.

Every week we provide enough food to create 160,000 meals reaching more than 35,000 vulnerable people.

As the Coronavirus situation develops rapidly, we anticipate we could see increasing demand for our service, particularly with the closures of schools, workplaces and public spaces and people self-isolating.

Many of the charities FareShare Midlands supports also provide communal meals which could be forced to close in the event of a lockdown. In order to ensure those at risk do not fall through the gap, we are preparing to evolve our operational model which could shift food provision to food parcels that could be either given or collected by people in need – as opposed to supplying the ingredients for communal meals. We are also assessing the ability of our network of 450 frontline charities, including schools, to act as a local redistributor of food parcels.

Please donate. We urgently need you support to help get food to vulnerable people.

Together we can fight hunger and tackle food waste

Britain is hungry. Having access to food is a basic human right and yet 8.4 million people in the UK are struggling to afford to eat. Food poverty affects not only the health and wellbeing of an individual but is also a barrier to personal development. 1 in 10 people including 1 in 4 children skip meals regularly.
At the same time 250,000 tonnes of food that is good enough to eat is wasted every year - enough for 650 million meals.
You can help in the fight against hunger by making a donation. Every donation made, no matter what size helps us to fight hunger across our communities.
