Holiday Hunger

Help get food to vulnerable children and families this summer: Every £1 could provide four meals for children in need.

The summer break should be a time of fun and excitement for children but this year the Coronavirus Crisis has meant many more families are facing financial hardship. FareShare Midlands has seen demand for food skyrocket, particularly among frontline organisations providing food to children and their families.

With the coronavirus pandemic pushing thousands of people into financial hardship, many more families are struggling to put food on the table this year.

Your support will help deliver food to children through organisations reaching children and their families across the midlands. Organisations’ like Leicester’s Highfeilds Adventure playground network. A network of 9 adventure playground located in the most socially deprived areas of the city.

Kevin who is the Coordinator of all 9 playgrounds shed some light on just how extreme food poverty has become with the additional weight of the pandemic, “usually we distribute around 140 packed lunches and food parcels a week, but this year during the pandemic, it’s risen to about 340 food parcels a week. This will be due to parents and carers facing unemployment and being furloughed”.

The amount of food distributed from the Adventure Playground has almost tripled in the last 5 months and their 150+ children aged between 6-16 continue to suffer far more than ever before. We urgently need your help to deliver more healthy, nutritious food to the food banks, community groups, activity schemes and schools supporting the most vulnerable children during this crisis.
