Help people in the Midlands
Need food to fight poverty in your local community?
Become a MemberBased in Garretts Green, Birmingham, the hub brings together education, youth work and family support to create a space where people feel included and supported. At its heart is a focus on children and young people. Throughout the week, they take part in youth clubs and activities, while families join stay and play sessions and other support. It is a place where young people can feel safe, build confidence, and simply be themselves.
As Adam Larkin explains, “We provide a range of community activities… children’s clubs, youth clubs, English classes, lots of things throughout the week.”
“They’re just about managing,” Adam says. “But then if a bill comes up… or something happens with the car… or you need to buy things for the kids, it just pushes you over that edge.”
When that happens, food is often the first thing to become difficult, directly affecting children and young people at home.
Angie, a volunteer of four years, sees it every day.
“Some people come in and say, ‘I’m a bit short’… and Adam just gives them a basket for free, especially if there are children,” she says.
“He gives them whatever they need… because you wouldn’t want someone to go hungry.”
“The food provided by FareShare is invaluable,” Adam explains.
“It’s fresh food… people can take it home, cook it, and make the best meals they can.”
Access to fresh food supports healthier diets for children and young people, helping their wellbeing and development. Through our Community Greens Membership, groups like Oasis Blakenhale can also access affordable fresh fruit and vegetables, ensuring good food reaches families instead of going to waste.
With support from FareShare Midlands, the hub is helping families stay steady during difficult times, making sure children and young people are supported when it matters most.
