When Vishakha arrived in the UK from India in October 2024, she brought with her a strong academic background, including a Master’s degree in Statistics, and a determination to put her analytical skills to good use. Like many people new to the country, she found adapting to a new work culture and building confidence in professional communication to be challenging.

Although she was confident in her technical abilities, Vishakha initially found it difficult to express herself clearly in interviews and professional settings. This affected her confidence and made it harder to secure roles that matched her qualifications.

While researching opportunities online, Vishakha discovered FareShare Midlands’ SkillShare and I-CAN programmes. Both initiatives support people to build confidence, develop employability skills, and move closer to paid work.

Finding Support and Building Confidence

Joining the I-CAN project proved to be a turning point in Vishakha’s journey. Through a mix of training, mentoring, and practical experience, she gradually began to rebuild her confidence and communication skills. She took part in workshops, confidence-building sessions, and mock interviews, all of which helped her understand UK workplace culture and expectations.

The supportive environment made it easier for her to participate fully and apply her knowledge in meaningful ways. She also received practical assistance through Smart Works, which provided interview clothing and helped her prepare for the job application process.

Turning Learning into Opportunity

With encouragement from the FareShare Midlands team, she was able to demonstrate her strengths and readiness for employment.

Her commitment and progress led to a major milestone: she was offered a paid role as a Junior Data Analyst at FareShare Midlands.

A Life-Changing Experience

“Thank you to Debra for giving me the confidence to back myself. FareShare Midlands has given me my confidence and my life back.” – Vishakha

From arriving in the UK uncertain about her next steps, Vishakha has built a strong foundation for her career in data analytics. Her journey shows the value of tailored support, practical experience, and the positive impact of programmes that focus on confidence and employability.

Looking Ahead

Now settled into her new role, Vishakha plans to continue developing her skills in data analysis and build a long-term career in the field. With renewed confidence and a deeper understanding of the workplace environment in the UK, she is ready to take the next step forward in her professional journey.

Her success story highlights how the SkillShare and I-CAN programmes empower individuals to realise their potential and move confidently into meaningful employment.
