Find Out MoreTaking place on Sunday 27 April, the London Marathon is one of the world’s most prestigious running events, drawing over a million finishers since its inception in 1981. With thousands of spectators lining the streets, it promises to be an unforgettable challenge - but for Oliver and Chris, this race is about much more than personal achievement.
For Oliver, who lives and works in Birmingham, witnessing the rise in food insecurity and child poverty firsthand inspired him to take action:
“It seems like a vicious cycle that can be incredibly difficult to get out of without the right support. It’s awful that so many children in Birmingham and across the Midlands are being failed. That’s why I think it’s important for charities like FareShare Midlands to be there and help those who need it.”
Oliver discovered FareShare Midlands through his partner, who has worked with several charities and recognised the organisation’s significant impact. Determined to make a difference, he has set himself a £1,000 fundraising goal to support FareShare Midlands' mission of redistributing surplus food to frontline charities and community groups.
Meanwhile, Chris Dixon, an architect at Franklin Ellis, is taking on this challenge after securing a coveted marathon place through his firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme. Having completed several half marathons, this will be his first full marathon.
“The chance of a place in the London Marathon is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Training is tough, but it’s all paying off - I even ran my fastest-ever 5K at a Parkrun last weekend! I’m proud to be supporting FareShare Midlands and hope to raise £2,000 to help them continue their amazing work.”
Chris is currently training four times a week, gradually increasing his distance, with his longest run reaching 25K so far.

Marc Green, Head of Fundraising at FareShare Midlands, expressed his appreciation for both runners:
“We are incredibly grateful to Oliver and Chris for taking on this challenge to support FareShare Midlands. Their dedication to tackling food poverty aligns perfectly with our mission. Every step they take in the marathon will help us redistribute more surplus food to people in need. We’ll be cheering them on every mile of the way!”
Every donation, big or small, will help Oliver and Chris reach their targets and ensure FareShare Midlands can continue its vital work.
