Don't let your fruit go to waste! Cook up this delicious, warming crumble instead...
Filling
200g Blackberries
300g Cooking Apples (or use eating apples. It will be sweeter and softer, but still delicious!)
Topping
50g Granulated Sugar (you can also use caster or demerara or even a mixture depending on what's in the cupboard. Don't use icing sugar though)
150g Flour (plain, self-raising, brown, it all works. My personal favourite is a mix of 100g self-raising and 50g oats)
100g Butter (or margarine!)
Method
1. Chop your apples and pop them in a pan.
2. Cook over a medium-low heat just long enough for them to start soften in (5-10 minutes).
3. Add the blackberries, stir in, and turn off the heat. All the fruit can stay in the pan for now.
4. While the fruit is resting, rub together the sugar, flour, and butter until it looks like breadcrumbs. This is your crumble topping.
5. Preheat the oven to 180C (gas 5).
6. Pour the fruit into an ovenproof dish.
7. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit.
8. Bake for 20 minutes and serve hot with cream, ice cream, custard, or yoghurt.
Experiment! Crumble is delicious with all kinds of fruit.
Try apple and plum, or pears instead of apples.
Try gooseberries, raisins, peaches, even pineapple!
