Corporate Volunteer Days
FareShare Midlands is very grateful to Suki Gill, Social Value Lead (Employment) for Serco UK, who recently organised a series of corporate volunteering days at our Nechells depot as part of their social responsibility initiative.

Over the last few weeks, groups of Serco team members have joined the staff and volunteers in the warehouse, to help us get food out to our community food members across the West Midlands.

Working hard in this way – picking, packing, sorting and loading surplus food - enabled the team to get first-hand experience of how FareShare Midlands is tackling food waste, hunger and poverty in our region.

At the same time, these passionate Serco employees gained an understanding of the vital part our volunteers play in the day-to-day operation. Read more about volunteering at FareShare Midlands here.

“What a day! Volunteering at FareShare Midlands with such passionate individuals who are selflessly giving their time to fight hunger and food waste.”
Theresa Comiskey
Training & Development Manager, Serco

“I had a wonderful day and now appreciate more the hard work that goes in to food distribution.”
Miah Luckman
Senior Job Coach Re-start, Serco

Employability Programme

It was also a fantastic opportunity for the Serco team to see how we can offer outstanding employability support. Serco offer a Re-Start Scheme for the West Midlands involving a range of participants. FareShare Midlands are able to offer these participants comprehensive training and practical work experience, empowering them to secure work within the warehousing sector. Read more about our Employability Programme here.

We hope this is the beginning of a beautiful partnership!
