                                                                          Christmas 2021

To all Staff and Volunteers

Dear all,

This has been another extraordinary year: who would have thought that we would now have permanent depots in the West Midlands, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire, support around six hundred other charities, and each month distribute more than 500 tonnes with a value of nearly £800,000 equivalent to more than 1.2 million meals. And all this despite the continuing pandemic, and the effects of Brexit.  And the growth of our charity has continued, if not quite at the frenetic pace of 2020, needing more staff and volunteers to enable us to carry out our mission.

Of course, our successes have come at a price, not least because we lost our wonderful Billie-Jo Elms to Covid in March. I know that all who knew her miss her terribly: she was such a lively character who loved FareShare Midlands and all it stood for, and was thrilled to be able to work somewhere which so reflected her outlook on life. Nevertheless, she would, I know, have been as proud as we all are in our achievements in such strange times.

All we have achieved wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and commitment of you, our staff and volunteer workforce. Your cheerful ability to adapt and accept change is a constant inspiration to the board and me, and with you at its core it’s no wonder FareShare Midlands has the reputation as a successful charity.

Thank you very much for all you, as individuals and as members of our amazing teams, have enabled FSM to do in 2021. I look forward to another interesting, challenging and successful year in 2022 working with you to reduce hunger and to reduce waste in our region.

Thank you and all good wishes for Christmas and for a Happy New Year!

Stay safe and stay well
