About FareShare Midlands

FareShare Midlands is the region’s largest food redistribution charity. We take good quality surplus food from the food industry and get it to frontline charities all over the Midlands. We turn an environmental problem into a social solution. Each day we receive good-to-eat surplus food from the food industry. The food arrives into our warehouses, where it is sorted and stored by our dedicated teams of staff and volunteers. The supplies are then redistributed to charities and community groups across the Midlands, including food pantries, homeless shelters and drop-in centres. These local organisations turn the food into food parcels, affordable shopping and delicious meals for vulnerable people of all ages. Here’s our Mission & Impact video, which tells the story of who we are, the types of members we work with, and the beneficiaries they support: FareShare Midlands: Our Mission & Impact.

The Role

We are seeking self-motivated, enthusiastic and creative Communications Assistants to join our friendly team. Whether you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, internship, or work placement - we would like to hear from you. The Comms Assistants will support our Communications Team in the delivery of our regional communications strategy. This is a great opportunity to get to know FareShare Midlands and its vital work, and to gain hands-on experience of the wide-ranging activities of the Communications Team.

Main Tasks
  • Assist the team with creating content (including written, graphics and video) for social media posts and the scheduling of weekly content.
  • Help with monitoring social media engagement, analysing performance and reporting on channel effectiveness.
  • Research trends and opportunities and help to improve our social media presence, followers and engagement.
  • Support the Communications Team with the design and production of up-to-date marketing content and materials (including leaflets, posters and reports) for online and print.
  • Support with the delivery of internal communications, including the weekly email and monthly newsletter.
  • Help build, catalogue and manage our collection of photo and video content.
  • Research into appropriate subjects for blog posts.
  • Assist with editing content including case studies.
  • Assist with gathering quotes from members, beneficiaries, volunteers and employability candidates.
  • Work effectively with staff and volunteers.
