We are all familiar with the feeling of picking your way across the living room on Christmas, trying not to step on stray toys or a half-eaten mince pie as you navigate your way through the sea of wrapping paper.
But not all this beautiful paper has to go to waste after December 25th! .png)
Repurpose your Christmas wrapping paper and help to cut down the amount that ends up in landfill. You may even save your future self some pennies in the process!
Here are some ways you can use your wrapping paper:
Have you, a family member or friend got a house move coming up? Or do you need a way to protect fragile Christmas ornaments? Save up your wrapping paper and use it to bundle up fragile items for storage! Far prettier than just newspaper.
Make gift cards and tags
Cut out your favourite pictures and patterns from your wrapping paper, stick onto some stiff paper or card and you've got yourself a gift tag! You can make them any size or shape you like. Simply punch a hole in the top and thread through some ribbon to attached to your presents.
Make confetti for New Year’s Eve or any upcoming celebrations
Cut up your wrapping paper into 4cm squares to make colourful confetti for New Year's celebrations - this works really well with tissue paper, too!
Wrap next year’s Christmas presents
If you unwrap carefully, you can easily reuse wrapping paper next year - particularly from larger gifts that take a lot of paper. Fold them up neatly and store in a box or file to keep for next year's gifts.
If you cannot be persuaded to reuse your wrapping paper, please make sure tha you recycle it properly.
Top tip! If you scrunch wrapping paper and it stays scrunched, then it can be recycled as long as it does not have any glitter or foil decoration. You must remove any sticky tape and decorations such as ribbons and bows as these are not recyclable.
