  • 96% of FareShare Midlands Charity Members are seeing the effects of the cost of living crisis.
  • 70% of Members are seeing more families with children among those new to their services.
  • 1/3 of Members seeing new people are serving more older people.
As the cost of living crisis continues to wreak absolute devastation, many of us will be buying fewer and cheaper festive items this year. But for some - families on low income, the elderly, and people suffering with addiction or homelessness – things are so much worse. What should be a time of joy will most likely be a nightmare. Worries about the spiralling cost of household essentials may push many to breaking point, with only the prospect of a long, hard winter to come.

Shannon is a young working Mom who came to Steph, Manager of The Community Store (FSM member), burdened with debt and unable to afford to replace broken appliances in her home. Shannon is a single parent to a 5 year old and has only had a job for 6 months. Shannon says “I am so grateful to Steph for all her help. I am still struggling to make ends meet and use The Community Store every week to make my money go that bit further”.

At FareShare Midlands we take nutritious surplus food from the food industry and redistribute it to around 500 charities and community groups feeding over 67,000 vulnerable people each week. At Christmas, with local community groups seeing unprecedented levels of demand across the region, we need your help to do more – to feed more.

Your gift of £10, matched to £20, will help provide one week of nutritious food for a hungry family.

With your support, we can make the holiday season brighter for even more people in need. This Christmas we want to make sure no-one in the Midlands goes to bed hungry, and that families facing tough times have nutritious meals on their tables. We want to help children go to bed with full bellies and hopeful hearts, and grandparents to be able to have supper without worrying about having the heating turned on.

Adam, his wife Kelly and their son are regular visitors to The Open Kitchen (FSM Member) and for 3 months they have been living in hotels – a different one each week. Adam says “you are not allowed to cook when you are living in a hotel, so it has been very expensive. The only hot food we were able to get for our son was from the Kitchen – it’s a godsend”.

As you prepare to celebrate the magic of Christmas, please consider making a special gift to FareShare Midlands through the Big Give. Your donations will be matched by philanthropists from across the UK, and your generosity will have a ripple effect; you will touch countless lives, transforming Christmas and bringing hope to those who are truly struggling.

Together, we can make spirits bright, provide food to those in need, and share the true meaning of the season.
From 28th November – 5th December
